The October Devotion came to its climax on the 30th of October, 2021 with over 1000 pilgrims and 7 Priests hosted at Our Lady of the Visitation Shrine Oleri, of the Catholic Diocese of Warri.
October Devotion is an annual devotion held every October to mark the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three children at Fatima, Francisco, Jacinta, and Lucy, where she urged the children to pray the Holy Rosary daily for the conversion of the world. This devotion is carried out worldwide in all Catholic Churches around the world.
The event at Our Lady of Visitation Shrine was remarkable in style and glamour. The Bishop, Most Rev Dr. John Okeoghene Afareha, was ably represented by the Dean of the region, Most Rev. Dr. John Omorovie Ikeke who presided over the Holy Mass concelebrated with six Priests in attendance: The Dean of Udu Denery Very Rev Fr Vincent Owoaka;
The Bishop’s incumbent and Past Secretaries, Very Rev Fr Dr. John Ederaine and Rev. Fr. Cletus Okafor; the chaplain of the Shrine, Very Rev. Fr Andrew Orogun, the assistant chaplain and chaplain to the Marian Societies, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Igbinovia, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Oweh and Very Rev Fr Ambrose Onyenwuchi.
The program featured Sacramental confessions, twenty decades of the Rosary in procession with the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Benediction, and the Holy Mass.
The occasion climaxed with the opening of the new gatehouse and the blessing of the Crucifix arena.
During his Homily, Fr. Ikeke representing the Bishop spoke on Mary as the Mediatrix of all graces a continuation of the theme for the Pilgrimage which Fr. Benjamin Igbinovia carefully expounded while delivering a talk on that day.
The chaplain thanked everyone for their presence especially giving thanks to God for the gift of His mother and the devotions we continue to make in her honor. He announced that the Shrine is undergoing some works of transformation with a five years target to make it a worthy ground of pilgrimage attracting people from different parts of the diocese and province.
